Dear Friend:

We the friends and family of Brian Plane will be hosting a benefit at Gaelic Park on November 18th, 2011.  Brian unfortunately is in the process of battling an undiagnosed type of cancer. We are writing to you today to request your help and support on behalf of Brian and his family.  Brian and his wonderful wife Donna have been married for seventeen years.  Together, they have three beautiful sons: Alex age 13, Steven age 11 and Jason age 8.  They have been part of the New Lenox community for 16 years.

In October 2010, Brian was admitted to the hospital with an extremely low blood count which required several blood transfusions. Sadly at this time, it was discovered that Brian had a large tumor in his esophagus and stomach. The tumor was so advanced it was hard to determine the exact cell type. Initially, Brian was treated with chemotherapy for what was believed to be a lymphoma. When the tumor did not shrink Brian’s treatment plan was revised. In December 2010, Brian underwent extensive surgery to remove the tumor. He spent several weeks in the hospital and was sent home with a feeding tube. Brian’s treatment required 6 months of grueling radiation and chemotherapy. From January through May, Brian endured many side-effects from his treatment. He experienced difficulty eating, hair loss, fatigue, low blood counts, pain, and discomfort from the feeding tube. Many times Brian’s blood counts dropped so low transfusions were required. In May, CT scans showed the treatment was ineffective. There was evidence of lymph node enlargements in Brian’s stomach and neck. Another painful lymph node biopsy was performed. Blood counts dipped so low another inpatient hospitalization was needed. Then a retinal eye tear required immediate repair. Determined not to give up and having so much to live for-a wife and 3 growing boys-a new chemotherapy treatment regime has begun.

As you can imagine, this has been an extremely difficult time for Brian and his family-an emotional roller coaster. During his treatment, Brian has mustered up the strength to continue working part-time whenever possible. He is determined to continue to support his family. Throughout this whole ordeal, both Brian and Donna have dealt with each set back with incredible courage and dignity. We find ourselves in awe of their amazing strength, incredible faith, and positive attitude. They remain hopeful that the next treatment will be the right one. Each day is an uphill battle filled with pain for Brian. Each day is also a gift.

In an effort to help alleviate the financial burden and stress, there will be a benefit held in Brian’s honor on November 18, 2011 at 6:00pm at Gaelic Park in Oak Forest, Illinois. All are invited to attend! Tickets are $25.00 for adults and $10.00 for children under 14. For information on purchasing tickets, please use the Contact Us link at the top of this page.

We are asking the community for their support. All local businesses, restaurants, and organizations can help sponsor our event by contributing a gift certificate, gift basket or merchandise to be used as a raffle prize. Monetary donations are also welcome. All businesses and organizations that donate will be recognized on the “For the Love of Brian” website. On the day of the benefit all contributors will be noted in a video presentation that will play throughout the event. Any donation, no matter how great or small, is appreciated!!!
